Taking Stock

So the year draws to a close in the coming week. So much has happened, and I don’t even know where to begin.

NURIN, BERSIH, HINDRAF, Zakaria Mat Deros, the AG’s Report, the Constitutional amendment, arrests, ISA, Subashini, Lina Joy, the floods, marginalized Malaysians, the slow and painful dying of democracy in this country and in many other sovereign lands, corruption, avarice, murder and explosives, revolt.

Has anything good come of this year?

I can think of a few things. Yeah, just a few. Increased awareness, by my peers and a conviction to fight for good and better things. I don’t think so many people have been so moved to action in such a long time.

The clouds have lifted a little, and despite everything, despite the tumultuousness of the year, there is so much hope. People continue to shock me on a daily basis, with their kindness, with their care, and most of all with their love.

I see in the new friends I’ve made, I see in the people who love this place and continue to know that this is a country that is worth fighting for.

But, most importantly, in the eyes of people who now want to take back their nation.

Have a safe and happy New Year. Let’s make next year memorable people. In a good way.

BolehGeneral, 19 Feb 2008

Fong Po Kuan decided to break up with us. We sent two of our buddies (LKS and LGE) to go and talk to her to try to get her to change her mind, and it looks as though they did try their best. But she remains firm… she thinks we should just be friends.

Roses are sinister, at times

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi condemned those Indians who wanted to sent roses to him. He said they are illegals and are holding a Hindraf rally.
So far, we had observed, the prime minister had accepted flowers and roses from Puteri UMNO and some other women.
We don’t know why the prime minister had conjured […]

Not going to take the words of the Devil anymore? But many others would still do.
“So, what difference can you make?” The cynic in you asks.
Making meaningful changes in politics is far more easier and safer than many people imagined.
Here is one way that you can make a difference by staying at home. Your […]
